CURE TREATMENT PREVENTION GENERAL

What does it mean:

U=U

U=U means Undetectable = Untransmissible.

If a person is on HIV treatment, and the amount of HIV virus in their blood (viral load) is lower than 1000, it is called undetectable. This means that HIV can no longer be transmitted during sex or pregnancy.

An undetectable amount of HIV only prevents transmission of the HIV virus during sex. So condoms are still important for making sure that other sexually transmitted diseases aren’t passed on, and to prevent pregnancy.
