Antibodies are part of your immune system and are specialised in detecting the presence of bacteria and viruses. Your body will produce antibodies against a virus like HIV. If you get tested for HIV, the test result will show whether you have these specific HIV antibodies.
If you do, then you’ve tested ‘positive’ for HIV antibodies.
