Do I have to stop taking my antiretrovirals if I want to participate in research?
Researchers struggle with this issue because it raises ethical questions. Is it acceptable to ask people to stop taking their medication when they participate in research whose outcomes are not yet clear?
If you are asked to participate in HIV cure research, be sure to ask what exactly is expected of you. And if it involves discontinuing HIV medication, ask what provisions they have made for this.
