CURE TREATMENT PREVENTION GENERAL

What does it mean:

bNAbs

bNAbs is short for broadly neutralizing antibodies. These are special HIV antibodies that can find and block many different types of HIV.

Antibodies are part of your immune system. They look for harmful bacteria and viruses and help remove them. When you take an HIV test, the test checks if you have HIV antibodies. If you do, the test result is “positive” for HIV antibodies.

HIV is a messy virus and changes (mutates) a lot. This means there can be different versions of HIV in your blood. bNAbs can recognize these different versions better than regular HIV antibodies. Researchers think bNAbs could be a strong addition to current HIV treatment.
