Kaposi’s sarcoma
Untreated HIV can considerably weaken your immune system. Illnesses that wouldn’t usually affect you – if you have a healthy immune system – are then given the opportunity to develop.
These are called opportunistic infections.
Herpes virus 8 is that kind of opportunistic infection. It can cause a skin cancer called Kaposi’s sarcoma that often appears as purple patches on the skin.
