CURE TREATMENT PREVENTION GENERAL

WHAT DOES IT MEAN:

CRISPR

CRISPR stands for: 'Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats'. CRISPR is a technique which involves cutting small pieces out of DNA – also known as gene editing.  With this technique, harmful sections of the DNA can be removed. For example, tomatoes can be made less susceptible to mould.

In HIV cure research, a CRISPR protein is used: CRISPR-Cas9. This can, for example, cut the HIV DNA out of CD4 T-cells.
